A South Hams project to create a video of musicians of every genre, instrument, age and ability, from across the district, all contributing to a song about climate and nature. Join us and lets create something amazing.

Two questions:

1. Are you passionate about the environment and concerned about climate change?

2. Do you play an instrument or can sing, or part of a band, choir, orchestra or know a bit about music video production?

If you’re a 'yes' to both these questions then the Root Note project needs you!

The Project

To create a video of musicians from across the district playing a few bars, a verse, chorus, fill, bridge, etc from a song that helps to raise awareness about our environment, its beauty and its fragility, and our changing climate.

The South Hams is blessed with a huge number of people of all ages with musical talent and interests in every possible genre and instrument. The idea is to have a theme that runs through the piece that allows contributions in the full range of styles, be it Folk, Jazz, Classical, Funk, Pop, Rock, Blues, … This could be a bass line, a motif or another musical device.

To get started we plan to have a competition to find a suitable tune and lyrics. The details of the competition and how to enter will be published shortly. Everybody that registers will get to vote on the best song.

Once we have a tune and lyrics we will send it off to everybody that has registered. There will be some basic rules but mostly you will then be able to let the creative juices well up and flood forth.

Then we will go round and record everyone’s version or contribution.

We will use all the recordings to create an amazing video.

Then finally, we will get everyone together for a fantastic concert.

There will be lots of information on this site very shortly, and a form to sign up.
