About Local Relay

14 Jan 2026 18:50

Local Relay is a not-for-profit initiative to help build a strong local green economy where businesses can find a local market for their produce, reducing delivery costs, environmental costs and keeping money circulating in the local economy.

If we take food as an example. Many small producers find it hard to get their produce to a market which limits their profitability and ability to grow, as well as limiting the possibility of local people having access to good fresh healthy affordable food.

By providing a pickup and delivery service across the district businesses will be able to ensure their produce is available in local outlets and markets, as well as coordinated deliveries to customers.

We are working with AmaZen open_in_new, another not-for-profit initiative, that is providing a local e-commerce platform that seeks to reduce the £60 million that is being drained from the local economy annually by the big trans-national platforms like Amazon, E-bay and Etsy to name a few. Local Relay will work with AmaZen to help ensure businesses on its platform can fulfill orders and compete with the convenience of the big platforms.

Sign up with AmaZen and you will automatically get the benefit of Local Relay, or if you just need the local delivery service sign up with Local Relay.

Timescales

We hope to launch the service in May 2026. In the meantime, we will be encouraging businesses to register with us so we can keep you informed of progress. We are working along side AmaZen which has a similar timeline.
